...HIGH SURF ADVISORY FOR WEST FACING SHORES OF THE BIG ISLAND THROUGH 6 PM HST THIS EVENING...

.A LONG-PERIOD WESTERLY SWELL WILL GENERATE ADVISORY-LEVEL SURF ALONG WEST FACING SHORES OF THE BIG ISLAND TODAY BEFORE EASING INTO MID WEEK.

...HIGH SURF ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 6 PM HST THIS EVENING...

* SURF...ALONG WEST FACING SHORES OF THE BIG ISLAND...6 TO 9 FEET. THE HIGHEST SURF IS EXPECTED ALONG THE COAST EXTENDING SOUTH FROM KAILUA KONA TO SOUTH POINT.

* TIMING...THROUGH EARLY THIS EVENING.

* IMPACTS...MODERATE...EXPECT STRONG BREAKING WAVES...SHORE BREAK...AND STRONG LONGSHORE AND RIP CURRENTS MAKING SWIMMING DIFFICULT AND DANGEROUS.
Description:

A High Surf Advisory is issued when waves reach threshold criteria for a particular island and shoreline.

Warning Instruction:
BEACHGOERS...SWIMMERS...AND SURFERS SHOULD HEED ALL ADVICE GIVEN BY OCEAN SAFETY OFFICIALS AND EXERCISE CAUTION.

Unmonitored lands and waters in the impact area described in the alert will also be impacted.

If conditions change before expiration or the event needs to be extended, an update or cancellation will be issued from Hawaii Beach Safety Website.
