Effective: Thursday, August 9, 2018 - 3:25pm to Friday, August 10, 2018 - 6:00am

Alert:
...HIGH SURF ADVISORY FOR SOUTH FACING SHORES OF KAUAI OAHU MOLOKAI LANAI MAUI...

.Swell from Hurricane Hector is now on its decline, but is still bringing elevated surf to south facing shores this afternoon. Some overwash along low-lying coastal areas and roadways will be possible, especially during the high tide this afternoon. Surf is expected to quickly drop off on Friday.

...HIGH SURF ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 6 AM HST FRIDAY...

* SURF...6 to 10 feet this afternoon, decreasing to 5 to 8 feet tonight along south facing shores.

* TIMING...Declining through tonight.

* IMPACTS...Moderate...Expect strong breaking waves, shore break, and strong longshore and rip currents making swimming difficult and dangerous. Some overwash along low-lying coastal areas and roadways will be possible, especially around high tide this afternoon.
Description:

A High Surf Advisory is issued when waves reach threshold criteria for a particular island and shoreline.

Warning Instruction:
Large breaking surf, significant shorebreak, and dangerous currents make entering the water very hazardous. Boaters should be aware of increased number of surfers utilizing the harbor channel to access surfing areas.

Unmonitored lands and waters in the impact area described in the alert will also be impacted.

If conditions change before expiration or the event needs to be extended, an update or cancellation will be issued from Hawaii Beach Safety Website.
